CCSO arrests two following vehicle, foot pursuit

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department arrested two Hopkinsville residents Thursday night following a vehicle pursuit on Cox Mill Road.

According to a news release, at around 8 p.m. Thursday Deputy Kevin Quarles attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had reportedly veered into his lane of traffic, causing him to turn into the emergency lane. The vehicle at first came to a stop on Cox Mill Road, but as Deputy Quarles approached the vehicle on foot, the driver reportedly sped away.

The pursuit continued down Cox Mill Road and then the vehicle abruptly turned into a bean field, losing control and landing on its side.  The driver, 27-year-old Joseph Tyree, fled on foot, while the passenger, 25-year-old Emily Eiland, remained at the scene and checked for injuries.

Tyree was located hiding in some grass, and a K9 Unit was deployed to ‘retrieve’ him.

A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed items of drug paraphernalia, a white powdery substance and a syringe containing a brown liquid, along with several firearms. Tyree was treated at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then arrested on charges of two counts of fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and several traffic violations.

Eiland was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication.
