A Hopkinsville man was arrested by city police Wednesday evening on a robbery charge.
An arrest citation for 26-year old Edward Gilstrap of Hopkinsville says he went to the checkout counter with items at the West Seventh Street Dollar General Tuesday night at about 9 o’clock and began talking to a woman in front of him.
After the woman paid and began to leave, Gilstrap also attempted to leave and told the clerk he had a knife when confronted about not paying. When the clerk picked up a phone to call 911, Gilstrap allegedly threatened to cut the clerk if she called police.
Gilstrap then fled the scene with about $40 worth of stolen merchandise and was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with first-degree robbery.
He was also served with a warrant for probation violation.
