More evidence testing underway in Sharpe Street murder case

Attorneys are requesting another pretrial in the murder case against Mory Burse, as they’re looking for more testing to be done on evidence in the case.

Public defender Eric Bearden represents Burse, and informed the court that they are having some further testing done, but he doesn’t expect it to hinder preparation for trial.

Judge Andrew Self set a pretrial hearing for November 23, giving time for testing to come back—Bearden says they remain on track to be ready for trial in December.

Burse is accused in the fatal shooting of Devon Kendrick in July of 2021. Burse is alleged to have used a 9 mm handgun to shoot the 48-year-old Kendrick multiple times in the torso and arms just before midnight July 28 at a location behind the East Ninth Street Dollar General on Sharpe Street.
