Todd County School System Superintendent Mark Thomas is overall pleased with their state assessment data from last school year, but says there’s still plenty of work to do to improve.
Each individual school in the district was in the yellow—or near the state average—overall and Thomas says a higher percentage of students last year tested distinguished or proficient.
The entire high school population in Todd County is actually in the orange—one tick worse than that state average yellow designation—with Thomas saying scores from the alternative school brought the district down a notch in that area.
All schools rated medium in the science, social studies, and combined writing indicator scores. Highlighted in those scores was Todd County Central High School with a combined writing indicator number that rated in the high range.
The two elementary schools were actually below state average in English Language Proficiency and Thomas says the district will continue to focus on literacy initiatives with an emphasis on writing and reading comprehension in partnership with the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative.
Additional assistance is needed to help special education students at Todd County Middle School meet their potential and Thomas says there’s programming in place to make it happen.
Todd County Central High School’s graduation rate remains in the high indicator range at 96.6 percent.
