Proceedings continued for East Fourth Street murder suspect

Proceedings were continued in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday for Tavaris Quarles, the man accused in the fatal shooting of Christopher Montrell Mumford on East Fourth Street.

Quarles appeared alongside defense attorney Sands Chewning, who informed the court that he will meet with the Commonwealth to go over evidence soon—then they’ll be ready to talk trial dates.

Quarles himself requested a reduction of his bond—$500,000 on the murder charge—saying he would be accepting of an ankle monitor.

Judge John Atkins informed him it’s up to his lawyer to file a bond motion before he can consider it, to give the Commonwealth notice of intent and time to respond, and did not making a ruling on bond.

Quarles is alleged to have shot Mumford when he went to a home in the 800 block of East Fourth Street and knocked on the door. Quarles reportedly shot Mumford after opening the door and then fled the scene.
