A trial date was set in the manslaughter case against Jeremy Ryan Smith Monday morning in Christian Circuit Court, though a possible resolution is not out of the question.
Smith appeared virtually before Judge Andrew Self, and public defender Doug Moore says he believes the case can be resolved, but he and the Commonwealth have yet to reach an agreement, so a trial date could be set in the meantime.
The likely two-day trial was set for May 4, with Judge Self also setting a pretrial hearing for December 21, where it’s his hope it will be resolved by that time.
An indictment against Jeremy Smith alleges he caused the May 8 death of a victim identified only as “S.G.” by distributing the controlled substance that led to the overdose. He allegedly provided the drug to the victim the prior day.
