>>Quintana To Start Game One For Cardinals

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Cardinals have chosen their starting pitcher for Game One of the NL Wild Card series against Philadelphia today.  Jose Quintana will take the mound in the first contest of the best-of-three set at Busch Stadium.  St. Louis won the NL Central with a 93-and-69 record, while the Phillies took the final NL Wild Card spot with an 87-and-75 mark.  The Cardinals went 3-and-4 against Philadelphia during the regular season.  Today’s game begins at 1:07PM.  Game Two is tomorrow and a third game would take place on Sunday, if necessary.

4:07 p.m. – Seattle Mariners at Toronto Blue Jays                (Game One of best-of-three AL Wild Card series)

8:07 p.m. – San Diego Padres at New York Mets                (Game One of best-of-three NL Wild Card series)

 

>>Braves Enjoy Bye during Wild Card Round

(Undated)  — The Braves await their next opponent as the Wild Card round gets underway later today.  Atlanta won the NL East with a record of 101-and-61, and finished as the second seed in the National League to earn a bye to the Division Series.  The Braves will play the winner of the best-of-three Wild Card series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies.

>>Pujols Says He Nearly Retired

(St. Louis, MO)  — Albert Pujols nearly ended his chase for 700 career home runs prematurely.  The Cardinals slugger says that he seriously considered retiring in June after a slow start to 2022.  He was hitting just .198 with four home runs at the time.  However, he says he made adjustments to the way he held the bat which helped him return to prime form and surpass the 700-homer mark.  Pujols begins his chase for one final World Series title today.

>>Reds Clean House after 100-Loss Season

(Cincinnati, OH)  — After losing one-hundred games for the first time since 1982, the Reds are deciding to part ways with several coaches.  First base coach Delino DeShields, hitting coach Alan Zinter and bullpen coach Lee Tunnell were among those who were fired yesterday.  Assistant coach Roland Valles and scouting coach Cristian Perez were also let go from David Bell’s staff.  The manager is expected to return next season, which will be the final year in his current deal.
