Indictment returned for pursuit crash that injured officer

A Hopkinsville man charged with felony assault of a police officer was indicted Friday morning by a Christian County grand jury.

Hopkinsville police were called to an East 19th Street location about 3:30 a.m. on September 9 for an emergency protective order violation and police say 38-year old Deonta White of Hopkinsville attempted to flee the scene when police arrived.

He headed east on Durrett Avenue and allegedly tried to ram a cruiser head-on and while that officer was able to avoid the collision, White did strike another cruiser and that officer sustained a severe leg injury.

He’s charged with first-degree assault of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, violation of an EPO, first-degree wanton endangerment, burglary, criminal mischief, possession of an open alcohol container and several other violations and charges.

An indictment for three counts of first-degree sexual abuse— including two against a minor under the age of 12—was returned against 32-year old Dedrick Willingham, Jr. of Hopkinsville. He’s additionally charged with second-degree burglary in connection with a June 30 incident when he allegedly entered the home of a woman, restrained her and made forced sexual contact. He also performed sex acts on himself in the presence of two small children, according to the report.

A separate indictment against Willingham includes sexual abuse, burglary and unlawful imprisonment charges and it alleges he went into a home on August 9 and made sexual contact against a victim under the age of 12.

Meanwhle, the grand jury indicted 42-year old James Fritz of Hopkinsville for failing to comply with the sex offender registry, alleging he didn’t notify the state when he changed addresses.
