Habitat for Humanity to dedicate local house

Habitat for Humanity will dedicate a home it constructed in partnership with Hopkinsville Community College in a ceremony Saturday morning on Starling Street.

It will be at 10 a.m. at 2212 Starling and Habitat for Humanity of the Pennyrile Director Heath Duncan says students going to HCC to learn construction help them build one home a year.

He reminds that Habitat is funded through a combination of donations and the payback of zero-interest loans used for residents to receive their low-cost home.

The agency has built 10 homes in the last year as it’s heavily involved in the recovery efforts following the December 10 tornado.

Two-thirds of homes in Dawson Springs were destroyed in the EF4 twister and Duncan says Habitat’s assistance was greatly needed to rebuild the community.

He says there was already a severe shortage of housing in Dawson Springs before the tornado.

Habitat for Humanity serves Christian, Hopkins and Webster counties.
