It was a beautiful and cool fall night on base at Fort Campbell as the District 8 KHSAA Girls Soccer Semifinals were played.
Matchup one was UHA taking on Christian County; or your one and four seed respectively.
Back on the 24th of September these two played a very tight and close affair. A 1-0 Lady Blazer win and that really sparked the Lady Colonels who proceeded to lose by only a goal in the following game to Fort Campbell 2-3.
Due to those two games the thought was this is a dangerous team, who has the ability to shock the district and pull an upset or even two.
While that remains the case, or remained the case more accurately as the season has come to a close, it was not the reality on Monday night.
UHA came out with an aggression and a purpose it seemed to shock the Lady Colonels. By Halftime it was 4-0 UHA with 2 goals by Aubrey Perry, and a goal a piece by Aubrey Grise and Skylar Cantrell.
The possession time was dominated by the Lady Blazers and it showed as County struggled to move the ball across midfield save a few just long hard kicks to clear the ball out.
After halftime UHA began to really play a possession based game, scoring just one more time on a goal by Emily Dill and clearing their bench in terms of participants.
They seemed to be resting in preparation for their inevitable, at that point, championship game on Wednesday.
I want to give the Lady Colonels credit as well. They never stopped fighting and certainly came out in the second half with their own renewed energy, they just were unable to crack a UHA defense that by that point was laying back and packing the County offensive zone with defenders.
The Lady Blazers now prepare for a matchup with Hopkinsville who had an emotional and crazy win on Monday night (article link here https://whopam.com/2022/10/04/lady-tigers-claw-their-way-past-lady-falcons/) directly after UHA’s game. UHA defeated Hoptown 2-1 back on September 17th. However, like their other district games with County and Fort Campbell, that was at home. At UHA. Does Neutral site level the playing field? It certainly did not end up aiding the Lady Colonels, maybe Wednesday night it will make for an exciting District 8 Title Game.
The game is currently set to start at around 6 pm Wednesday.
