Grand jury returns indictments for rape, assault

Multiple indictments were returned for assault by a Christian County Grand Jury Friday, along with an indictment for rape in connection with an attack on the rail trail in July.

Indicted for first-degree rape, first-degree strangulation and tampering with physical evidence is 44-year-old Jason Wayne Morse of Hopkinsville—he is accused of grabbing the young woman from behind in the area of the 3700 block of Bahama Drive on the trail. He then allegedly raped, choked and threatened to kill the victim and then fled the area on foot.

Three Christian County Jail inmates—Robert Torian, Isaiah Campbell and Alianard Washington—now have indictments for second-degree assault. Personnel at the Christian County Jail on August 2 charged all three suspects with assault after they allegedly kicked, punched and stomped another inmate while he was curled up in the floor. Arrest citations say the victim sustained a concussion and busted ear drum.

Indicted for first-degree assault in a separate incident at the Christian County Jail is 39-year-old Cortes Thornton of Mayfield, who allegedly wrapped an electronic table in some type of cloth and used it to assault another inmate, causing injuries that required surgery.

Twenty-year old Tyquarius Stubbs of Hopkinsville was indicted for attempted fetal homicide, second-degree assault, strangulation, unlawful imprisonment and intimidating a participant in a legal process. An HPD arrest warrant alleges Stubbs Hopkinsville assaulted a pregnant woman that he had dated at one time. He’s accused of using the buckle of a belt to strike the woman, in addition to punching and kicking her numerous times. He also allegedly used his hands to strangle the victim and put a table in front the door when she tried to leave, threatening to kill her if she called police.

Sixty-seven-year-old Herbert Wharton of Cadiz and 53-year-old Ronald Young of Hopkinsville were both in relation to an incident on July 26, with Young indicted for second-degree assault and Wharton indicted for two counts of first-degree assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A warrant alleges on July 26, Young caused serious injury to Wharton by striking him several times on the head, causing injuries that required surgery and could potentially cause him to lose vision in one eye. Later that morning, Wharton allegedly confronted Young and shot him in the hand and shot 65-year old Kathy Jackson in the leg with a rifle during an incident on a lot between East Third and Fourth Street.
