Todd Board of Elections looking to restore Kirkmansville voting location

Voters in the Kirkmansville community of Todd County may not have to drive far to vote by next May’s primary election as the Board of Elections will be inspecting a potential precinct location.

Kirkmansville voters have had to go to North Todd Elementary School the last several years due to there not being an ADA-compliant location in their community, but County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan says the Board of Elections will go to the new Helen’s Place location Monday to inspect it for compliance.

She also reminded of some important dates to remember for the upcoming election, including that beginning Saturday, you can go online to govoteky.com and request a mail-in absentee ballot if you’re not going to be able to make it to your polling place to vote in-person. The voter portal to request that mail-in ballot will be open until October 25.

Todd County Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith asked magistrates to think about options to keep emergency dispatchers safe if a tornado is headed in their direction. The current building on South Main Street is not safe for anyone to ride out a tornado and Smith says the county could purchase a ‘Safe Shed’ for approximately $10,000 where those employees could take shelter.

No action was taken on the matter, but Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield says he and the magistrates will look over their options in the next few weeks.
