Gov presents $30 million in Guthrie for pipeline project

The Pennyrile Regional Energy Agency is receiving $30 million from the state budget to begin constructing a natural gas pipeline from Trigg County to Guthrie and Governor Andy Beshear was in Todd County Wednesday morning to present the check

Eston Glover is the chair of that relatively new organization that is formed in the image of the Logan-Todd Regional Water Commission will oversee implementation of the $115 million project and says they’ll also be responsible for distribution of gas once it’s complete.

While the pipeline will also serve communities from Cadiz to Oak Grove to Trenton along its route, Glover says the need for a new and abundant supply of gas in the region became more evident with the expansion of Novelis in Guthrie.

Governor Beshear thanked Representative Jason Petries of Elkton, who chairs the House Budget Committee, for his work in getting the $30 million in the final version of the budget and says projects like Novelis and Ascend Elements in Hopkinsville could be a preview of things to come in western Kentucky.

Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield thanked the governor for traveling to Todd County so many times in recent months and for not forgetting the communities in western Kentucky.

A check for $5,000 was also presented to Governor Beshear from the citizens of Todd County to benefit the victims of flooding in eastern Kentucky.
