Madisonville, Crittenden County teachers honored as state teachers of the year

A western Kentucky teacher was named 2023 Valvoline Kentucky Teacher of the Year and a teacher from Madisonville was one of three finalists.

Crittenden County Middle School reading teacher Mandy Perez took home the teacher of the year award, saying she loves her job and called teaching “the best profession in the world.”

Kelly Gates teaches fifth grade at Pride Elementary School in Madisonville and was named the elementary school teacher of the year.

Woodford County High School teacher Amber Sergent was the high school teacher of the year.

Christian County High School Agriculture teacher Victoria Mohon was one of 24 Kentucky educators named as recipients of the 2023 Valvoline Teacher Achievement Awards.
