EDC preparing for new industries, advocating for current ones

The South Western Economic Development Council is preparing for new industries in the area while putting out the word that existing ones are always hiring.

Executive Director Carter Hendricks says they were thrilled when Ascend Elements chose Commerce Park 2 in Hopkinsville to locate their electric vehicle battery facility and they’re planning for their arrival.  He says it’s very likely that electric vehicle type industry will become more commonplace and Hopkinsville could be the place they call home.

Ascend Elements will eventually be looking for employees, but in the meantime, Hendricks says multiple industries are hiring for good-paying jobs at this moment.

He says the Ignite initiative for local high school students to better prepare them for life after school and for entering the workforce continues to take place in the school districts.

Hendricks also spoke about the successful western Kentucky job fair that was held at the James E. Bruce Convention Center, and says they plan to have more in the future to hopefully bolster the local work force and get the people who want to be working into good jobs.
