Several efforts will be made in the coming weeks to increase voter turnout in Christian County and the Board of Elections discussed some of those measures during its regular September meeting Thursday morning.
Nikki Chambers with the League of Women Voters says they’re working with civic organizations and other groups to spread the word about the 16 voting centers for election day and early voting options and HWEA has already agreed to put voting information on an upcoming water bill.
Philip Eastman is the Republican representative on the Board of Elections and says text messages will be going out to registered voters in Christian County with information on when and how they can vote.
There will also be signs going up at the old voting locations that are no longer used letting folks know they can’t vote there and providing the locations of the voting centers.
Advertisements are being purchased on local radio stations and in the Kentucky New Era and there will be signs at the Veterans Day parade and Downtown Trick or Treat telling people when and where to vote.
Post cards will also be mailed to all registered voters with the same voting information.
Christian County Clerk Mike Kem says there are 31 poll worker positions still unfilled and Republicans and folks who are willing to drive to locations out in the county are especially needed. Applications to be a poll worker are available at christiancountyky.gov.
Polls will be open November 8 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. at 16 voting centers where anyone who is registered to vote—Bruce Convention Center, the courthouse, senior center, Oak Grove Community Center, Indian Hills Elementary, New Barren Springs Church, New Palestine Baptist Church, Friendship House, Sinking Fork Baptist Church, Pembroke Baptist Church, Crofton City Hall, South Christian Elementary, Walnut Street Center, Concord Baptist Church, Cedar Grove Baptist Church and Hopkinsville Middle School.
There will be early voting for any registered voter November 3-5 at the Senior Center and Bruce Convention Center and there will in-house absentee voting at the Christian County Courthouse October 26-28 and October 31-November 2.
If you can’t make it to an in-person voting location due to illness or other good reason, you can apply for a mail-in absentee ballot at govoteky.com between September 24 and October 25.
