Trial date set in Christmas Day stabbing case

While bail credit will be an option for the Christmas Day Witty Lane stabbing suspect, further modification of bond will not be permitted, following a hearing in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.

Benito Bautista appeared alongside his attorney, who requested the judge allow for further modification of his bond that might allow Bautista to be released from custody—but Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jerad Smith argued against it, saying the victim in this case feels his life is in danger.

Judge Andrew Self denied further modification of the bond, but will allow Bautista to receive bail credit, which permits the defendant a credit of $100 per day as a payment toward the amount of the bail set.

A trial date was also set to begin June 12 of 2023, with another pretrial hearing set for May 17. Bautista is accused of stabbing a man in a relationship with his estranged wife at a residence on Witty Lane on Christmas Day multiple times, sending him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.
