Man facing several felonies after ramming cruiser, injuring officer

A man is charged with felony assault of a police officer after he allegedly rammed a police cruiser early Friday morning in an attempt to evade arrest.

Officers were called to an East 19th Street location about 3:30 a.m. for an emergency protective order violation and an arrest citation says 38-year old Deonta White of Hopkinsville attempted to flee the scene when police arrived.

He headed east on Durrett Avenue and allegedly tried to ram a cruiser head-on and while that officer was able to avoid the collision, White did strike another cruiser and that officer sustained a severe leg injury.

White then fled on foot and allegedly continued to resist after he was captured.

He’s facing several charges including first-degree assault of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, violation of an EPO, first-degree wanton endangerment, burglary, criminal mischief, possession of an open alcohol container and several other violations and charges.

The injured officer was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.
