Elkton pursuit ends with arrest in Logan County

A pursuit of a speeding vehicle that began Sunday afternoon in Elkton ended in Logan County with an arrest.

Elkton Police Captain Jakop Smith observed two silver Ford Mustangs heading east on East Jefferson Davis Highway and clocked one going 113 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to a news release.

Captain Smith was able to catch up to the vehicle and activated his emergency equipment, but 19-year old Logan Church of Russellville allegedly refused to stop.

A pursuit ensued and Church eventually stopped approximately two miles inside of Logan County on US 68. He was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, speeding and possession of marijuana.

Sergeant Patrick Turner of the Todd County Sheriffs Office and Deputies Josh Toomey and Colin Smith of the Logan County Sheriffs Office assisted in the pursuit.
