‘Notables of Todd County’ book to highlight history, benefit Green River Academy restoration

Todd Countians and those with an interest in local history will want to get their hands on a copy of “Notables of Todd County,” a coffee table book that “provides a journey into many places, people, and events that make Todd County such a prominent place in the lives of so many people with Todd County ties.”

It’s authored by retired educator Carolyn Wells and sponsored by the Green River Female Academy Preservation Society, which will host a book release event Saturday, September 10 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Milliken Memorial Community House on West Main Street in Elkton.

A majority of the books will sell for $30, but 200 will be available for $35 that are signed by Wells with a special message from the author.

Laura Brock, who served as chair of the Notables book committee, says “We are so very excited our months of work and preparation have resulted in a book that will bring so much reflection upon the rich heritage a part of Todd County.”

Retired Todd Central High School art teacher Doris Kelly, who also served on the book committee, added, “I am so excited for the release of Notables. I am especially fond of the book because it benefits the Green River Academy which is being restored to help spotlight the arts for our citizens and other visitors as well.”

There will be several locations to purchase the book across the area including “Something Special,” “Sweet Caroline’s Boutique,” “Hip Harvest,” and “Prim & Proper Boutique” in Elkton; “Traveler’s Lantern” and “Rosa Belle’s” in Trenton; and “Longhurst and Ladell’s” in Guthrie. In Hopkinsville, copies can be purchased at Tonja West’s “Home Front Real Estate.”  In Russellville, copies can also be purchased at “Shelter Insurance – Sharon Shanklin” at 173 West 4th Street.
