Two dead, multiple injuries after mass shooting at Henderson homeless shelter

Two people were killed and four were injured in a mass shooting Thursday night at the Harbor House Christian Center homeless shelter in Henderson.

Henderson police identified the suspect as 37-year old Kenneth Gibbs of Henderson and officials told the Courier & Press that Gibbs was a resident at the Harbor House Christian Center where about 15 people were inside when he opened fire.

Witnesses identified Gibbs as the shooter and he was reportedly arrested about 9:45 p.m. near the Hays Boat Ramp.

Harbor House describes itself as “a shelter for men who need housing, meals, and assistance with finding employment.”

Gibbs is lodged in the Henderson County Jail and is charged with two counts of murder.

Governor Andy Beshear issued a statement saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Henderson this morning after a senseless act of violence took the lives of two people and left four injured. Britainy and I pray those injured recover quickly and we give thanks to our brave first responders. Henderson, we stand with you.”
