Beshear, McConnell among Ham Breakfast speakers

Governor Andy Beshear and both of Kentucky’s U.S. senators were among those speaking Thursday morning at the Kentucky Farm Bureau Ham Breakfast at the state fair in Louisville.

Governor Beshear recounted the state’s response to tornadoes in western Kentucky in December and flooding in eastern Kentucky late last month, saying Kentuckians accomplish great things when they work together.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says the greatest challenge facing farmers right now is inflation and he blames Washington, D.C. Democrats.

Senator Rand Paul criticized Governor Beshear and Dr. Anthony Fauci for shutdowns during the pandemic and says large-spending bills in response to the pandemic created inflation.

Ag. Commissioner Ryan Quarles, who is running for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, praised farmers for not slowing down during the pandemic.

The Grand Champion Ham produced by Ronny and Beth Drennan of Cadiz was ultimately purchased at auction by a joint bid of $5 million from Kelly Craft and Central Bank.
