Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has called a special session of the General Assembly to address the funding for recovery in eastern Kentucky, which was impacted by deadly, historical flooding.
The goal is to create a SAFE fund for devastated communities, along with legislation to support schools that were badly damaged in the flooding and have been unable to open to students.
The governor says he and legislators have been working together and have come to agreements on funding that will benefit all those affected.
The special session is expected to go for three days—the recovery package is expected to be similar to the one that was passed when western Kentucky was hurt in the December 10 tornadoes. Thirty-nine people were killed in the flooding that happened at the end of July.
