Tennessee man charged with DUI, assault of officer following crash

A Tennessee man sought on warrants is facing several new charges after he allegedly drove impaired and attempted to assault a police officer following an accident.

Hopkinsville police responded to a collision at Pembroke Road and Bill Bryan Boulevard just before 3 p.m. and an arrest citation says 44-year old Gregory Thomason of Pegram, Tennessee smelled of alcohol and there was an odor of alcohol coming from his vehicle.

He allegedly tried to strike an officer as he stepped out of his car and struggled with police as they took him into custody.

A search of the car allegedly turned up an open bottle of alcohol and a baggie of marijuana.

Police say he showed numerous signs of being intoxicated and would not attempt field sobriety tests.

A computer check showed Thomason was sought on warrants for failing to appear in court and non-payment of fines.

He’s additionally charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, DUI, possession of an open alcohol container in a vehicle, possession of marijuana and failure to maintain insurance.
