The Foundation for A Healthy Kentucky held a conference Tuesday morning discussing how Kentuckians feel about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and how they are moving forward while living with it.
Roughly 800 individuals participated in the poll, and President and CEO Ben Chandler says that at least one-third of Kentuckians who participated in their COVID-19 poll said they felt the COVID-19 pandemic was over, both in their everyday lives and as whole, and have gone on living their lives as normal.
He says the poll also revealed that people are still open to learning more about remaining safe from COVID-19, including being willing to learn more about vaccinations and getting vaccinated themselves.
Chandler says the best ways to stay healthy during the ongoing pandemic remain the same as they always have—maintaining good hygiene, monitoring yourself for symptoms and staying home if sick, and staying up-to-date on vaccines.
As many school districts are welcoming students back into the classrooms this week, the Foundation recommends following guidelines where it comes to masking and large gatherings, based on incidence rates and community spread numbers. Chandler says a good portion of folks you aren’t yet vaccinated said they’re still in ‘wait and see’ mode, and while he understands that stance, he is confident that they know getting COVID-19 while not being vaccinated is certainly worse than any effects the vaccine may have.
