Mental health evaluation still pending in Richard Street murder case

Daron Bell, the man charged in the February fatal shooting of Gregory Burse, is still awaiting a mental health evaluation and proceedings were continued once again in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.

A court order has already been issued for Bell to be evaluated by the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Complex, but public defender Doug Moore says the facility is very back logged and this is not the type of testing you want done virtually. Judge Andrew Self agreed to set another pretrial hearing, to allow the defense time to either have this evaluation done or pursue other options.

The next pretrial hearing was set for August 31.

Bell is charged with murder in connection to the shooting of Burse on Richard Street in February—Hopkinsville police say Bell admitted to shooting the 36-year old Burse in the upper torso. Burse was pronounced dead at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and Bell was soon arrested at another location.
