Council approves municipals orders, honors retiring fire fighter

Hopkinsville City Council bid farewell to a retiring Hopkinsville firefighter and approved several municipal orders at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Tony Harris is retiring from the Hopkinsville Fire Department after 25 years of service to that department where is served as fire fighter, EMT and engineer and the community as a whole. Mayor Wendell Lynch says Harris will be missed but he expects people will still see him helping the community in some way, due to his spirit of service and volunteerism.

City Administrator Troy Body says Hopkinsville is reaching out to the people of eastern Kentucky who are recovering from devastating flooding, sending an ambulance to assist and giving money to the relief funds.

Council approved the Inner-City REZ budget in the amount of $500,000,—also approved was a municipal authorizing $50,000 to go towards matching a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts to hopefully establish a Downtown Arts Festival. Councilmember Chuck Crabtree was the lone ‘no’ vote on that.
