Much-needed rainfall fell on the area Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, but some areas received much more rain than others.
The Fort Campbell weather station reported 3.17 inches of rain as of about 11:30 p.m., while the Mesonet station north of Hopkinsville received 1.44 inches in a 24-hour period ending early this morning.
The Mesonet site between Elkton and Trenton received .91 inches during the same period and only about 4-tenths of an inch fell at the site north of Cadiz in Trigg County—though there was much more rainfall in Cadiz and areas to the south.
Over 1,000 Pennyrile Electric members were without power at one time due to the round of thunderstorms that moved through, though crews had gotten that number down to less than 100 by 5:30 a.m.
Rain is expected to return to the area Thursday afternoon and continue through Friday, with additional chances each day this weekend.
Most of western Kentucky has been in a moderate or severe drought the last few weeks due to lack of rain and extreme heat.
