Governor Andy Beshear on Tuesday afternoon announced Todd County is receiving a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant for renovations to the Todd County Senior Center.
The improvements will include new HVAC units, correcting plumbing issues, new flooring and ceiling tiles, installing energy-efficient lighting and repairing the roof, gutters and downspouts. The main entry door will be made accessible and office space will be established for the Pennyrile Allied Community Services, which staffs and operates the center.
The front porch area will also be enclosed for additional space for center activities.
The governor said helping the center is especially rewarding, considering so many seniors missed out on congregating together during the pandemic.
PACS Senior Center Director Charlotte Lyons says the improvements will be very popular to the seniors they serve.
The governor also announced the City of Elkton is receiving a $123,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for improvements at the city-county park.
The funding will go toward removing old playground equipment and installing new, safer playground equipment. New metal light poles and LED lights will be installed at a ball field in the park.
Elkton Mayor Arthur Green joined Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield in thanking the governor and local PADD office for their help to receive the grants.
Elkton is also receiving $400,000 in Transportation Alternatives Program funds for a sidewalk replacement and drainage project on West Main Street. The project involves removing old, deteriorated sidewalk, burying utilities, installing new sidewalk, curbs and gutters. The city also will enlarge a storm sewer culvert to alleviate chronic street flooding.
Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield and Elkton Mayor Arthur Green thanked the governor and the Pennyrile Area Development District for their assistance in getting the funds.
The governor made the announcements at an event in Russellville.
