Man arrested on attempted rape charge

Investigation by Hopkinsville police Sunday morning on Means Avenue led to the arrest of a Clarksville man for an attempted rape charge.

A woman told officers she had been she had been watching TV with 37-year old Thomas Baggett of Clarksville, who is a former coworker, and that he went to the bathroom and returned nude.

Baggett allegedly pulled down the woman’s pants and put his hand around her throat when she said ‘no’, but she was able to escape and ran to a neighbor’s home to wait for police.

Arriving officers found Baggett in the victim’s bed, with the report saying he was still naked and intoxicated.

He was arrested and charged with attempted rape in the first-degree and second-degree strangulation.

The victim sustained minor injuries, according to the report.
