Hopkinsville City Council heard the end of the fiscal year financial report at Tuesday’s meeting.
Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin presented the end of year report, saying while the year did end with a budget shortage of roughly $500,000, it was not as bad as they had feared it might be and the actual operating results were very positive.
Martin says they also had a very strong year for payroll tax collections, collecting approximately $925 million of equivalent payroll in in fiscal year 21-22, which was an increase from last year.
Mayor Wendell Lynch also credited the department heads for being very discerning in their budgeting process, saying overall it was a strong year for the city.
Council approved a budget amendment on second-reading that corrects an error in the employee pay grade, bringing it to the correct amount without changing any budget totals.
