The Christian County School Board will discuss the recent bids received for construction of the consolidated high school when it meets Thursday night.
It appears almost certain neither bid will be accepted after the minimum price for the most basic version of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Academy came in at $199 million last week.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel appeared on WHOP Tuesday morning and says the bids are “not acceptable” in his opinion and the next step is deciding the best way to move forward as a district.
He reiterated he still believes in the consolidation concept, but acknowledges it won’t be easy now.
Bentzel says he’s heard from people on both sides of the issue and he intends to do what’s he feels is best for students in the district.
Bentzel says he hopes this is a “detour or speedbump” for the consolidation process and remains “excited about still keeping the vision alive and moving forward when the time is right.”
The school board could theoretically choose Thursday night to re-bid the project, attempt to renegotiate the current bids, reject them outright and delay further action, or other options.
