Grand jury to hear case against South Elm shooting suspects

A Christian County Grand Jury will soon hear the allegations against the men accused of being involved in a shots fired incident from July 7 at West First and South Elm Street.

The Hopkinsville Police Department charged 39-year old Michael Croney and 24-year old Toddarius Polk of Hopkinsville with attempted assault in the first-degree and first-degree wanton endangerment, with Croney also charged with third-degree terroristic threatening.

Detective Shawn Bean testified at a preliminary hearing for Croney Friday that the victim had spent the prior night drinking alcohol with Croney and Polk and that they confronted him in the driveway of a friend’s home.

The man in the car reportedly attempted to leave to avoid a confrontation and that’s when shots were fired by at least one of the suspects and two bullets hit the car.

District Judge Foster Cotthoff found there was probable cause for the case against Croney to be heard by the grand jury and when Croney argued for a bond reduction, the judge declined and said he’s tired of hearing about these types of gun charges.

Croney’s bond remains at $50,000.

Polk waived his hearing directly to the grand jury.
