A preliminary hearing was postponed Wednesday morning in Christian District Court for 24-year old Michael Sims, one of several men charged in connection with the June 16 armed home invasion at the Glass Avenue residence of Charles “Bird Dog” Paige.
Assistant County Attorney Maureen Leamy told Judge Lindsey Adams they’d have to wait to proceed until Sims has counsel and the judge continued the hearing for a couple weeks.
Michael Cotthoff stood in for the brief proceedings Wednesday, but can’t represent him in the case because he already represents a codefendant. He noted Sims is also being held on other felony charges, so the two-week delay wouldn’t cause any issues.
Sims is charged with complicity to first-degree robbery.
Other suspects charged in the incident include 24-year-old Ajaizion Johnson, 19-year-old Isaiah Campbell, 30-year-old Marshall Austin and 18-year-old Korey Zivotin.
Multiple suspects entered Paige’s home and gunfire was exchanged, but no one was injured. A detective previously testified the men believed Paige had a stash of money they desired to take.
