CCPS announces hiring of athletic trainers

The Christian County Public School System has announced the hiring of two athletic trainers for the district.

A news release says Mike Long will serve as a trainer for Christian County Middle and High School while Benny Butler will serve as a trainer for Hopkinsville Middle and High School.  Long will also serve as the instructor for the new Sports Medicine program for students through Gateway Health Science Academy.

Jennie Stuart Health will continue to partner with the district to provide support by providing and assigning physicians, needed equipment, as well as continuing education for the trainers.

The sports medicine program through Gateway Academy will begin this fall and will provide students interested in athletic-related health professions with a first-hand look into sports medicine.

Upon completion of initial courses, students will have opportunities similar to those in college who serve as student trainers under the direction of the athletic trainer for high school sporting events.
