Kachelle Isbell, the woman charged in the April 2021 shooting death of Anthony Johnson, entered a guilty plea to her role in the incident in Christian Circuit Court Friday afternoon.
Isbell had originally been charged with murder in the shooting of Johnson, which had occurred on College Street on April 3 in 2021, but she entered a guilty plea to the amended charge of second-degree manslaughter Friday. Judge Andrew Self says that comes with a recommended five-year sentence, and the defense will be able to argue for probation.
Judge Self accepted her plea and set a final sentencing for August 16.
Isbell has contended in the past that the shooting was an accident, and she has allegedly admitted to shooting the 33-year-old Johnson and was at the scene with a .38 caliber pistol the night of the shooting. She remains out on bond, pending final sentencing.
Johnson sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was declared deceased at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
