The directors of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library and John L. Street Library in Cadiz have received a Library Science Tuition Scholarship from Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians.
A news release says Kentucky law requires public libraries be staffed by personnel certified by the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians. In an effort to ensure that public libraries are able to meet these requirements, the board offers the Library Science Tuition Scholarship to help public library staff meet certification standards by completing college library science courses.
It is awarded to students employed in a Kentucky public library who are enrolled in college courses for their librarian certification. The scholarship awards $500 per semester for students enrolled in a four-year program and $250 per semester for students enrolled in a two-year college.
DeeAnna Sova with Hopkinsville’s library and Heather Pritchett with the library in Trigg County received two of the 10 scholarships awarded for the upcoming term.
