A woman was arrested for felony wanton endangerment Monday afternoon after her two small children were found unattended in the parking lot of the Roadway Inn on Fort Campbell Boulevard.
Hopkinsville police were called to the location and found the boy and girl in the rear parking lot with red flush faces and wearing soiled diapers, according to the report, which says their mother—33-year old Madison Beal of Hopkinsville—was found inside a motel room where she’d been asleep.
Police say the room was in disarray with food and dirty diapers on the floor and that Beal said she had only been asleep for a few minutes.
Beal allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day and a witness said the children had been out in the heat for at least 45 minutes. Police write on the report that small handprints were present on the door where the children had tried unsuccessfully to get back into the room.
The temperature at 5:30 p.m. when police arrived was 97 degrees and the heat index was 107.
Beal was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.
The children were turned over to the custody of their father, who arrived on scene and told police he had been at work all day.
