Grand jury returns indictments for assault, wanton endangerment

A Christian County Grand Jury returned several indictments Friday, including for second-degree assault and wanton endangerment.

Indicted for second-degree assault, intimidating a participant in a legal process and theft by unlawful taking is 35-year-old Dezeron Brewer of Hopkinsville, who is alleged to have struck a female victim in the head with a pan on May 3, causing injuries. He’s also accused of using force to prevent her from calling police and took the victim’s cell phone and tablet as he fled.

The victim then went to a neighbor’s home and dialed 911.

Indicted for first-degree wanton endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident while failing to render aid is 29-year-old Carlita Byrd of Hopkinsville. She is alleged to have wantonly engaged in conduct that created a substantial risk of death or serious injury to a victim in January and causing more than $500 in damages to property owned by another victim.
