Local judges, lawyers highlight importance of U.S. Constitution with reading

Once again, lawyers and judges from the area came together to celebrate and read the Constitution of the United States of America Thursday afternoon at the Christian County Justice Center.

Christian Circuit Judge Andrew Self got the reading underway with the preamble to the Constitution, which declared the intent of the people to establish the foundations of the government they wanted to build, following newly won independence.

Circuit Judge John Atkins is one of the organizers of the event and says that it’s important, now more than ever, for citizens to know the contents of the Constitution and how it protects and benefits everyone, equally.

They were joined by judges Foster Cotthoff, Jason Fleming, Jamus Redd and numerous lawyers and representatives from the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, County Attorney’s Office and more.  They read the Constitution in full, along with all its amendments and the Bill of Rights.
