Reds lose to Cubs, Braves also lose while Cardinals win in extras

The Cincinnati Reds gave up a pair of big innings in their 7-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Great American Ball Park. The Reds allowed four runs in the fourth and another three runs in the seventh. Aristides Aquino hit two home runs in the losing effort, and Tommy Pham also went deep. Cincinnati has lost three of its last four games as the teams meet again this evening.

Elsewhere in the National League: The Atlanta Braves didn’t have much going at home in a 7-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Austin Riley had two hits and drove in a run in the loss. The teams play again tonight in Atlanta.

Interleague: Paul Goldschmidt hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the tenth inning as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 at Busch Stadium. St. Louis scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and force extras. The series continues tonight.

The St. Louis Cardinals will be without some key pieces for the foreseeable future. The team placed starting pitcher Steven Matz and outfielder Dylan Carlson on the injured list yesterday, and catcher Yadier Molina will also miss time after he was placed on the bereavement list to be with his son, who is about to have arm surgery.
