Kentucky State Police continue to investigate after a Calloway County Sheriff’s Deputy and suspect died in an officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon near the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office in Benton.
Multiple police agencies have identified the officer as Calloway County Chief Deputy Jody Cash.
Cash began his career as a deputy sheriff for the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office in 1999. He also spent six years as assistant chief of Murray State University Police as well as eight years as a Kentucky State trooper.
He joined the Calloway County Sheriff’s Department in September of 2020.
The shooting incident happened a few minutes after 2 p.m. Monday in front of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Cash and the suspect were both transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Kentucky State Police has not released any additional information.
