FOP, community honor the memory of those lost in the line of duty

The Fraternal Order of Police held their annual law enforcement memorial service Thursday afternoon in honor of those who have given their lives in the name of serving and protecting the community.

FOP President Mike Velez thanked the community for the support they have in their law enforcement officers, and encouraged them to thank an officer in honor of National Police Week.

Ten officers have lost their lives in the line of duty in Christian County since 1893, with the most recent being Hopkinsville Police Officer Phillip Meacham, who was lost in March of 2018.  Assistant County Attorney Lincoln Foster was the keynote speaker and says that day in March will haunt him, not just as someone who works closely with law enforcement, but because Meacham was family—and he knows the sacrifices made by these men and women every day.

He thanked the officers present, and on duty, for their commitment to protecting those who call this community home, and says those who have gone on before will be remembered forever.

The name of the 10 officers killed in the line of duty in Christian County—were read during the ceremony, and deputies with the Christian County Jail gave a Three Volley Salute.  A wreath was placed at the foot of the memorial statue behind HPD, as those present remembered the fallen and appreciated those who continue to run towards danger.
