Day care worker charged with child abuse

An employee of a local daycare was arrested Saturday on a criminal child abuse charge.

An arrest citation for 22-year old DeShayla Day of Hopkinsville says the alleged incident happened Thursday at her former place of employment, which HPD has confirmed was the First Baptist Church Daycare in Hopkinsville.

Police say Day “wantonly abused another toddler” by “placing the toddler in a situation that may cause physical injuries.”

It continues that Day allegedly “confined the toddler in the hallway as cruel punishment.”

The 18-month old toddler required treatment for some type of injury sustained during the incident at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, according to the report, which does not list any other details.

Day is charged with first-degree criminal abuse.
