The Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors got an update on the hazard mitigation plan that is being constructed to benefit the nine-county region.
Infrastructure Coordinator Kyle Cunningham says the plan has taken on new meaning following the devastating tornadoes in December that impacted numerous communities in the PADD area in a multitude of ways. He says the plan is to create a blueprint that would develop ways to reduce the impacts of natural disasters of all kinds.
He says they are currently gathering input from city and county officials on what is needed in each community to help make their plan a reality.
Amy Frogue says grant opportunities are available for the project, from tornado sirens to shelters and more.
A draft of the disaster mitigation plan can be found on the Pennyrile Area Development District website.
