Work on Walnut Street bridge in Hopkinsville to begin next week

The closure of Walnut Street in Hopkinsville at the Walnut Street Bridge over the CSX railroad will begin on Wednesday.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the closure is necessary for the reconstruction of the new bridge. Located in Hopkinsville, the structure is 475 feet northeast of East 21st Street and the new structure will have two lanes and a pedestrian sidewalk on the east side of the bridge.

The traveling public, including pedestrians, should begin preparing for alternate routes around this location. A signed detour will be in place to assist all motorists, but KYTC wants to emphasize the importance of the detour for commercial truck traffic.

That detour will utilize Skyline Drive and US 41for access by trucks requiring a larger turning area.
