Victims in boating accident identified

The TWRA has released the names of the two boaters killed in an accident early Tuesday morning on Lake Barkley in Stewart County.

They were 43-year old Cynthia Taylor and 47-year old Michael Mabes—both of Woodlawn in Montgomery County.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officers responded to a call about a capsized boat near the upper end of the Cumberland City Island near river mile 104 at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Officials say the victims were not wearing a life jacket.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Eight people have died in boating accidents in Tennessee already this year.
