A trial date was set for January of 2023 in the murder case against Bobby Spikes, who is accused in the fatal shooting of Stanley Bussell in December 2021.
Spikes may also be subject to additional indictments for murder in Trigg County—Bussell’s body wasn’t discovered until 34-year-old Candace Marcel of Hopkinsville was found dead in an abandoned vehicle on Cerulean Road in Trigg County in December and a search warrant was served at Marcel’s Clearman Court home. Defense attorney Doug Moore says they’re hopeful to hear something on that soon, as it’s been some time since the case began.
Spikes and Marcel had been in some type of relationship and had once lived together, though they were no longer sharing a home, according a detective who testified at a hearing in December. Kentucky State Police continue to investigate Marcel’s death.
Spikes himself once again requested that Judge John Atkins recuse himself from the case, and Judge Atkins once again denied that request.
A trial date was set to begin on January 23. The arrest warrant for Spikes says he fatally shot Bussell in the head.
