Steven Matz led the St. Louis Cardinals to a 1-0 shutout win over the Kansas City Royals at Busch Stadium. Matz improved to 3-and-1 after scattering four hits in six scoreless innings. The Cardinals scored the games only run on Paul Goldschmidt’s solo home run in the first inning. The Cardinals have won their last two games as they play the Royals again tonight in KC.
Travis d’Arnaud knocked in three runs as the Atlanta Braves beat the Mets 5-2 in New York. Austin Riley launched his seventh homer of the year for Atlanta while Max Fried improved to 3-and-2 after allowing two runs over six frames. Game two of the series is tonight at Citi Field.
