Novelis breaks ground for Guthrie recycling center

Ground was broken Monday morning in Guthrie for the largest capital investment in the history of Todd County as Novelis is creating 140 new jobs with construction of a $365 million aluminum recycling center.

Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield says Novelis is not only changing the physical landscape in Guthrie, they are giving Todd County families a better future with high paying jobs that offer great benefits.

Governor Andy Beshear called it a great day for Kentucky and noted the grand opening for the existing facility was only about six months ago.

Tom Lilienthal is the Guthrie plant manager and praised their current employees for already making the facility safe and productive.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul believes Kentucky is becoming more competitive for industry expansions with tax reform and he praised Novelis for their success.

Novelis North America President Thomas Boney says the facility near the current plant on Old Railroad Lane will be equipped with state of the art equipment capable of processing all types of aluminum scrap, including from vehicles at the end of life.
